BATU PAHAT, Nov 14 — Five local men were charged in the Magistrate’s Court here today with the murder of a youth who allegedly refused to marry the daughter of one of them, four years ago.

No plea were recorded from Sek Jamaludin, Seri Viremurugan, Abdul Rafiq Ganasan, MR Nagaran and Mohamad Fairuz.

They allegedly murdered Mohamad Rauf Othman, 21, at an open area in Jalan Kundang 11, Taman Bukit Pasir here, about 11.30pm on May 31, 2012.

In the same court, Muhammad Thariq Gopal Subramaniam, 34; Mohd Sollahudin Salehin, 32; Mohammad Fairuz; Mohd Abid Ibrahim, 29; Muhamad Arshad Ibrahim, 29 and Nagarajan, pleaded not guilty to kidnapping the victim.

They allegedly committed the offence at Lorong 2, Kampung Baru Sri Gading, about 10pm on May 31, 2012.

Meanwhile, Mohd Sollahudin; Sek Jamaludin; Seri Viremurugan; Abdul Rafiq; Hussin Mahmud@ Mohamad, 45; Hassan Mahmad@ Mohamad, 45; Mohammad Fairuz; Mohd Abid; W Shanmugam, 30; Abdul Hadi Abdul Karim, 27; BS Jazwant Singh, 39, and Nagarajan, 29, were charged with rioting.

They allegedly committed the offence in Jalan Kundang 11, Taman Bukit Pasir here, about 9.30pm on May 31, 2012.

Sek Jamaludin, Mohamad Fairuz, Mohd Solahhudin, Hassan, Mohd Abid, Shanmugan and Abdul Hadi pleaded guilty and were sentenced to 12 days in jail and fined RM1,000 each, by magistrate Mohd Zulhilmi Ibrahim.

Seri Viremurugan, Abdul Rafiq, Nagaran; Hussin and Jaswant claimed trial and the court set Dec 19 for mention of the cases.

Deputy public prosecutor Mustaqim Sukarno appeared for the prosecution while all the accused were represented by counsel Sukhdev Singh and Iskandar Shah Ibrahim. — Bernama
