PUTRAJAYA, Nov 12 — Two Indonesian women who were agents of a fake identity card (I/C) syndicate in Sandakan, Sabah were nabbed by the authorities in a special operation last night.

In a statement today, National Registration Department (NRD) director-general Mohd Yazid Ramli said the operation was conducted by the NRD and the police.

“Intelligence revealed that the duo were actively seeking clients or foreign nationals keen to obtain fake identity cards at RM6,000 each,” he said.

In fact, he said, the duo, aged 25 and 48 years, were found to be using fake identity cards themselves.

“Questionable documents, birth certificates of unknown people, photos of individuals and falsified identity cards were found at their home. Two laptops believed to have been used in the activity were also found,” said Yazid.

He said a Perodua Myvi car belonging to one of the women, which was suspected to have been used in their activity, was also seized.

He also said three men and two women staying in the house, aged from 23 to 57 years, were also nabbed for using fake identity cards, believed to be sourced from the two women.

He said all the suspects detained including the two women agents were from Bone, South Sulawesi, Indonesia.

Mohd Yazid they were being investigated under Regulation 25(1)(e) of the National Registration Regulations 1990 (Amendment 2007) which carries a three-year jail term or fine not exceeding RM20,000 or both, if found guilty.

Other than the seizure of the fake identity cards being used, the NRD also seized several Automatic Teller Machine cards and account books and detected fake driving licences, he added. — Bernama
