KUALA LUMPUR, Oct 9 — PAS has appointed Hashim Jasin, the oldest in the syura council, as its new spiritual adviser to replace the late Datuk Dr Haron Din.
PAS syura council secretary Datuk Nik Muhammad Zawawi Salleh told the Islamist party organ, Harakahdaily, that Datuk Ahmad Yakob was retained as the deputy spiritual adviser because of his busy work as Kelantan mentri besar.
“We picked and appointed Tuan Guru Haji Hashim Jasin because he’s the oldest in the syura council.
“Besides that, he is very knowledgeable and has mature, political foresight,” Nik Muhammad Zawawi was quoted saying.
He also said Ahmad himself had proposed Hashim for the job.
Haron, a faith healer, died last month from heart complications at Stanford University Hospital in San Francisco.
