SEREMBAN, April 3 — The Seremban City Council (MBS) will summon the contractor responsible for managing the Seremban Main Market building following an incident in which the second floor was flooded due to a burst water tank pipe early today.
MBS Mayor Datuk Masri Baharuddin said the council was informed that damage had previously occurred at the same location, leading to the pipe bursting again.
He stressed that the council would not compromise and would blacklist the contractor if found to be negligent.
“As soon as we received the complaint, I instructed the contractor to carry out immediate repairs, and the issue was resolved within a few hours.
“However, I will personally call the contractor soon to obtain a full explanation, as this problem recurred at the same location,” he said when contacted today.
Masri also expressed appreciation to an individual who acted quickly to shut off the main water supply, preventing the situation from worsening.
He added that the council has yet to determine the total losses suffered by traders but said further action would be taken, including reviewing the business licences of those affected.
Earlier, media reports indicated that more than 20 traders were affected when their premises were flooded due to the burst pipe, causing water to overflow onto the building’s second floor.
Lobak assemblyman Chew Seh Yong said the incident is believed to have occurred at about 2 am when water from the tank overflowed. — Bernama
