KUALA LUMPUR, Sept 6 — Existing reservations in PKR over cooperation with Tun Dr Mahathir Mohamad will be dispelled after his meeting with Datuk Seri Anwar Ibrahim, Parti Amanah Negara’s (Amanah) Khalid Samad said today.

The Amanah communications director noted there were sections within PKR who were uncomfortable with the links to Dr Mahathir and his Parti Pribumi Bersatu Malaysia.

“When there now is a reconciliation (between leaders), PKR as a whole can accept.

“All Malaysians cannot deny the leadership of both these leaders, the potential combination of the two promises a better opposition bloc,” he told reporters during a press conference today.

The Shah Alam MP added that he had previously suggested for Dr Mahathir to mend his relationship with Anwar in order to consolidate support for his “Save Malaysia” movement.

He added that the opposition bloc would now be able to include Parti Pribumi in seat negotiations.

“You must find a way for the sake of unity of the electoral pact. They (Parti Pribumi) don’t necessarily need to join Pakatan Harapan,” Khalid said.

He also said that both Amanah and Parti Pribumi will target PAS seats in the next general election, with Amanah contesting in seats that have a large majority of non-Malays.

Dr Mahathir appeared in court yesterday to lend moral support for Anwar’s application for an interim injunction against the National Security Council (NSC) Act, the first time the two have met since their acrimonious falling out 18 years ago.

The former prime minister was reserved, however, about the significance of his meeting with Anwar after nearly two decades of bad blood.

When pressed to say if he was now on friendly terms with the former deputy prime minister yesterday, Dr Mahathir stated that he was there to support the latter’s legal action.
