KAJANG, May 26 — Police shot dead four suspected robbers as they were walking along the Kajang Silk Highway near the Sungai Long toll plaza here early this morning.
The incident unfolded at 3.15am when the four, along with a fifth suspect who is still at large, abandoned their plan to break into a home at Taman Saujana Impian after the alarm was triggered.
Selangor police chief Datuk Abdul Samah Mat said the owner of the house immediately lodged a police report and a patrol unit was dispatched to track down the suspects.
At 6.15am, the unit spotted the group, all believed to be foreigners, walking along the highway, and chased them on foot into the trail along the Sekamat River.
“The suspects attacked the policemen with machetes when the officers identified themselves.
"They policemen were left with no choice but to pull the trigger," he said.
Abdul Samah said the four suspects died at the scene while one managed to flee on foot.
Police are still combing the nearby forest area where the confrontation happened for the escaped man. A team from the General Operations Force has also been deployed to join the search.
Abdul Samah urged clinics and hospitals to alert the police immediately if they spot the suspect who may decide to seek treatment.
