GEORGE TOWN, May 25 — Private hire car service GrabCar launched its service in Penang today by offering a free airport transfer service.
Grab Malaysia country manager Jaygan Fu said the promotion starts today until June 7, and allows passengers to make two trips from George Town to the airport in Bayan Lepas or in the opposite direction.
GrabCar, formerly known as MyTeksi, recently launched its service in Johor Baru before heading north.
“Penang is internationally known as a must-visit tourist destination, coupled with economic opportunities in the northern region in Penang and Kulim, we see this as an opportunity to provide a service to those already familiar with ride hailing apps here,” Fu said at the launch of the service here.
He said GrabCar not only features the same safety aspects as MyTeksi but has also introduced new ones.
“GrabCar recently introduced an insurance policy that covers both passengers and drivers,” he said, adding that they have also introduced a pilot in-car CCTV initiative to enhance the safety of both the passengers and drivers.
On the legality aspect, Fu said Grab is now working with transportation regulators on this matter.
Passengers can enjoy the free airport rides by downloading the GrabCar app, and entering the “Hellograbcar” promotion code.
