KUALA LUMPUR, Feb 4 ― A PAS lawmaker has decided to boycott the swearing in of Datuk Seri Ahmad Bashah Md Hanipah as Kedah mentri besar after Datuk Seri Mukhriz Mahathir was ousted.

Datuk Mahfuz Omar, Pokok Sena MP from Kedah said he did not support the method in which Mukhriz was pushed out from his MB’s office, purportedly for speaking out against Prime Minister Datuk Seri Najib Razak.

“I’ve thought long and hard about the faith of my beloved state of Kedah Darul Aman. What will happen to our grandchildren if there is a political leader that is so vengeful that Mukhriz, who has not made a big mistake, is ousted?

“Due to the love for my state and the people of Kedah that are in mourning, I have made the decision not to attend the swearing in ceremony of the new Kedah mentri besar,” he said in a statement today.

He added that he believed Kedah residents would also join him in rejecting the “Putrajaya mob” that is “attacking” the state via the removal of the son of former prime minister Tun Dr Mahathir Mohamad, which he dubbed as a “betrayal” to the people.

“Where is the faith of the Kedah people now with a new MB and exco members who are immoral and lack political integrity, who only know to follow blindly?” Mahfuz questioned.

Mukhriz announced his resignation yesterday when he was informed by the Kedah Regency Council that he had lost majority support in the state assembly, after the council held meetings with all the assemblymen in the state.

Ahmad Bashah’s swearing in ceremony is set to take place today before the Kedah Regency Council in Alor Star.

Ahmad Bashah’s replacement of Mukhriz came after he led a delegation of Umno leaders to call for a new MB, citing Mukhriz’s purported failure to govern the state and to unite the party, as well as his lack of strategy for the next general election.
