KUALA LUMPUR, Dec 23 — Prime Minister Datuk Seri Najib Razak said today the principle of solidarity should continue to be a core strength and the height of the dignity of the Muslim community.

He said a life of harmony and unity formed the axis of the existence of a nation.

“The feeling of humanity is the true basis of unity, friendship and brotherhood while unity is the core strength and dignity of the people,” he said in a message in conjunction with Prophet Muhammad’s Birthday tomorrow in a post on his blog, najibrazak.com.

“Therefore, it is most important that we appreciate this unity and translate it into love and practical action, starting with the basic unit such as the family and neighbourhood and then on to the national and international levels,” he said.

The prime minister said forging unity was among the more important Sunnah that had been passed on by Prophet Muhammad to his people.

He said that it was on this basis that the government would continue to strive to prosper the country into a developed and high-income Islamic nation.

Najib also drew attention to the fact that Prophet Muhammad’s Birthday was celebrated twice in 2015, the first time in January.

“On January 3, we celebrated Prophet Muhammad’s Birthday for 1436H and tomorrow, December 24, we will celebrate Prophet Muhammad’s Birthday for 1427H. Praise be to God,” he said.

Najib said Prophet Muhammad’s deeds and services were so great because he and his companions endured numerous hardships and suffering in upholding the teachings and tenets of Islam and building the ummah (community). — Bernama
