MALACCA, Dec 4 — The Malacca state government will be giving sprint champion Badrul Hisyam Abdul Manap RM3,000 as incentive for winning three gold medals at the 2015 Asean School Sports Championships in Brunei on November 23.

Malacca Chief Minister Datuk Seri Idris Haron said the incentive was expected to be presented to Badrul Hisyam next week as an encouragement for him to continue performing well and to bring honours to the country and Malacca at international level.

He said the state government was expected to consider giving incentives to two other runners, Asnawi Hashim and Khairul Hafiz Jantan who were also from Malacca in the relay team which won the gold medal and set a new record in the 4x100 metres in 39.86 seconds at the Asean athletics meet.

“We will consider incentives for the other two Malacca-born sprinters even though the amount has not been determined,” he told reporters after meeting Badrul Hisyam at the Chief Minister’s office here, today.

Also present was State Sports Council director Ismail Abdol Jalil who pesented RM1,000 incentive to Badrul Hisyam for his achievement while his coach, Mohd Poad Md Kassim was also rewarded.

Badrul Hisyam erased the 17-year-old 100-metre record set by Watson Nyambek in 10.29 seconds, which was by 0.01 second faster than Watson’s record at the championships in Brunei. — Bernama
