KUALA LUMPUR, Oct 6  — A security guard pleaded not guilty in the Sessions Court here today to a charge of deceiving a Malaysian Anti-Corruption Commission (MACC) officer using fake documents three years ago.

Shahjehan Abdul Rahim, 47, allegedly committed the offence in room 303, JRL Hotel, Jalan Raja Laut, here, on Aug 2, 2012 under Section 89 of Anti-Money Laundering and Anti-Terrorism Financing Act 2001 (AMLATFA).

If convicted, the security guard who worked at a private college could be jailed up to one year or a fine not exceeding RM1 million or both.

He allegedly submitted 20 fake documents with intention to deceive MACC Asst Supt Nik Lokman Hakim Nik Mohd Nor after being directed to do so under Section 32(2) (b) of AMLATFA.

Deputy Public Prosecutor Robert Pasang Alam suggested for RM50,000 bail with one surety. Shahjehan, who was unrepresented, pleaded for lower bail saying he had low income and had to support five children.

Judge Allaudeen Ismail granted Shahjehan bail of RM25,000 with one surety and ordered that he hand over his passport to the court.

The court set the case for re-mention on Nov 4 for submission of documents and appointment of counsel.  — Bernama
