MACHANG, Sept 7 — The government has assured that victims of the massive flood that hit Kelantan late last year whose names had been left out from the RM500 aid recipients list will receive the assistance soon.

Rural and Regional Development Deputy Minister Datuk Ahmad Jazlan Yaakub said the National Security Council and the Social Welfare Department would be distributing the aid in the second phase.

“The delay is due to overlapping of names because some of them (victims) had registered more than once, while the number of recipients is too big, almost 200,000 families across Kelantan.”

He said this to reporters after presenting aid to 230 flood-victim families from the Machang parliamentary constituency, here, today.

Ahmad Jazlan, who is also state Umno Liaison Committee deputy chairman, was asked to comment on complaints from victims who had not received the aid, even after eight months of the massive flood.

He advised those who had not received the aid to be patient, as the federal government was concerned about the fate of all the victims. — Bernama
