PERMATANG PAUH, April 27 — Barisan Nasional state assemblymen will table a motion to amend the state constitution and limit an individual from holding the chief minister’s post for no more than two terms.
State Opposition Leader Datuk Jahara Hamid said they have submitted the proposed motion to the state legislative assembly for tabling in the sitting that was to start on April 30.
She also accused the state government of deliberately postponing the sitting to avoid the motion.
“We do not accept the postponement so we will also table a motion to cut the chief minister and the state executive councillors’ salaries for failing to stand up for the people’s rights,” she said in a press conference at the BN operation centre for the Permatang Pauh by-election here.
She said the postponement of the state assembly sitting due to the by-election showed the weakness of the state administration under Penang Chief Minister Lim Guan Eng’s leadership.
“There is only two state assembly sittings per year and it is important because this is where state assemblymen legislate and present policies to benefit the people,” she said.
The state legislative assembly was supposed to be opened on April 30 and start on May 5 after the long holiday weekend but it was postponed to the week after that on May 11.
