BUKIT MERTAJAM, April 11 — Police recovered the body of a man at the Bukit Minyak Industrial Estate near here at about 10.45am yesterday.

A police spokesman said a passer-by had alerted the police after he found the body at the roadside in the industrial estate.

Police believe the deceased could have died elsewhere before his body was dumped.

They also believe the deceased was a foreigner as no vaccination scars were found on his body.

No foul play is suspected as there were no injuries and the case has been classified as “sudden death”.

The remains have been sent to Seberang Jaya Hospital for post-mortem.

Sources said the body, which was unclothed and bundled in a bedsheet, was dumped in a similar manner used by human trafficking syndicates.

On March 5, police recovered the remains of an unidentified foreigner in the bushes near a sawmill in Jalan Ara Kuda, Bukit Mertajam.

The victim, in his 30s, was wrapped in a blanket.

In another incident on March 16, police recovered a highly decomposed body of a foreigner in a secondary jungle about 2km from Kampung Sethu in Nibong Tebal.

The victim’s hands were tied with nylon rope and a piece of cloth was wrapped around his neck.

Malay Mail had on March 18 reported that the bodies of 24 foreigners had been found dumped in rivers, plantations and oil palm plantations and remote areas in Penang and Kulim since last year — all linked to human trafficking rings.

The deceased, all men from Myanmar and Bangladesh, were believed to have suffered high levels of abuse as well as severe physical and mental torture at the hands of the traffickers.

Dozens of illegals exploit the almost non-existent security in the north to enter the country every day and remain at the mercy of evil syndicates.
