KUALA LUMPUR, Feb 25 — Threatened with assassination, Tan Sri Khalid Abu Bakar warned today the group of anonymous men to end their “irresponsible” actions as it is a serious threat to national security.

The Inspector-General of Police was responding to a threat by a band of masked men speaking under the banner of Anak Malaysia Anti Demokrasi in a one minute and 27 second video clip posted on Facebook yesterday.

“Such threats do not scare me as the police chief to carry out the tasks entrusted to me. Such threats are common in the life of a police officer in performing his duties,” he said in a statement.

He said the group’s activities is being tracked by the police with the help of the Malaysian Communications Multimedia Commission (MCMC).

The three masked individuals had said they intend to assassinate Khalid by blowing up his car.

The spokesman for the group, speaking in a modulated voice, condemned high-ranking officials in Malaysia for “cheating democracy” and claimed that the existing system would not bring better officials to the country.

This comes just a couple of weeks after several individuals claiming to be Islamic State members said they will set off firecrackers at Malaysian courthouses.

Today, the IGP said those who made the death threat did not understand how democracy worked in Malaysia.

He added that it is worrying that some Malaysians chose not to use the existing democratic channels and “often do things that are against the law in their demand for change”.

“I urge those with similar ill-intent to stop that thought immediately because such action can bring serious implications to the nation’s security and destroy the harmony and well-being of the multi-racial and multi-religious community,” he said.
