SANDAKAN, May 16 — Thirty people were made homeless when a pre-dawn fire razed three houses in Kampung Gas today.
The 3.30am fire caused by a candle destroyed three houses but no casualties reported.
The Fire and Rescue Department received a distress call at 3.59am and immediately dispatched three engines with 14 firefighters to the scene.
The fire was completely extinguished at 4.42am.
A victim, Faizul Norazman, 20, said the fire started from his house before spreading to two adjacent homes.
“I was awakened by the loud screams of my sister, but it was already too late, the fire spread too quickly. I only managed to get all my three sisters and three cousins out of the house and was unable to save anything,” he told Bernama when met at the scene.
Sekong assemblyman Datuk Samsudin Yahya, who visited the victims, said immediate assistance would be channelled to them.
“Cooked meals will be given to those affected for three days and and food essentials for a week,” he said. — Bernama
