SHAH ALAM, Dec 13 — Selangor police will add up to 1,000 units of closed circuit television (CCTV) cameras throughout the state next year after 666 cameras commenced operation in stages in 15 districts since January last year.
Inspector-General of Police (IGP) Tan Sri Khalid Abu Bakar said police were now identifying new locations to install CCTV with focus on hotspots.
“I believe the additional CCTV will help provide more analytical reports and to prevent crimes.
“Apart from video recording, it can also be kept for more than one month and become strong evidence to be brought to court in prosecution of criminal cases,” he told reporters after opening a programme, ‘United Against Crime Through Eyes in the Sky’, here today.
Khalid said Selangor police also encouraged individuals and private companies having CCTV in their premises to be linked with police camera communication system to facilitate detection of criminal activities in their areas. — Bernama
