KUALA LUMPUR, Dec 13 — Inspector General of Police (IGP) Tan Sri Khalid Abu Bakar said there had been positive developments in the investigations into the murder last April 26 of Customs deputy director general (Customs/Internal Taxation) Datuk Shaharuddin Ibrahim in Putrajaya.

However he said police could not divulge the information at this time.

“We have not forgotten the case; in fact we inform the victim’s family on every development in the case,” he told reporters after the signing of a memorandum of understanding (MoU) between the Royal Malaysian Police (PDRM) and Lions Clubs International 2013 here today.

Shaharuddin was shot dead while on his way to work at 8.15am that day by two men on a motorcycle when the vehicle he was travelling in, stopped at the traffic light junction towards Lebuh Wawasan.

To the suggestion by Home Minister Datuk Seri Ahmad Zahid Hamidi for the police to join forces with the Malaysian Islamic Development department to curb the spread of Shiah teachings in the country, Khalid (picture) said he would meet with the latter on setting up a special police team soon.

In another development, Khalid issued a stern warning to foreigners in the country against fanning and spreading the riot which happened in Little India, Singapore on Sunday, to Malaysia.

“Legal action awaits them if they get involved in such a riot here,” he warned.

He was asked about the incident that happened for the first time in the republic’s history involving 27 South Asian nationals.

Meanwhile, Khalid represented the PDRM in the signing of the MoU while Lions Club International was represented by its District Governor Lau Tengh Chye.

He said the two parties planned to expand their scope of cooperation to increase public awareness of cyber crime. — Bernama
