GEORGE TOWN, Dec 6 — Penang Chief Minister Lim Guan Eng will send a notice of demand to the New Straits Time over an article alleging he hired thugs to stop an Indian-interest group from sending a petition on Indian crematoriums.
“We will take legal action against NST for publishing such lies,” he told a press conference today.
The DAP secretary-general said offending article that had accused him and Deputy Chief Minister II Prof Dr P. Ramasamy had sent thugs to threaten an Indian-interest group.
“The article was unprofessional, unethical and immoral so we will send them a notice a demand today,” he said.
He demanded that the English news daily retract and apologise for publishing the article.
The NST news article had quoted a Concerned Citizens of the Indian Community spokesperson N. Ganesan who claimed a ‘few thugs’ had interrupted the non-governmental organisation’s meeting last week.
Ganesan had told a press conference a few days back alleging the state administration had sent the thugs to threaten them.
The group is an ad hoc committee to solve problems surrounding the Batu Lanchang Crematorium and the group had planned to send in a petition to the state administration.
