KOTA SAMARAHAN, Sept 22 — A new bill to replace the Sarawak Housing Developers Ordinance will be tabled at the coming State Legislative Assembly sitting this November, said State Housing Minister, Datuk Amar Abang Johari Tun Openg, here, today.

He said a committee headed by the Assistant Minister of Housing, Datuk Abdul Karim Rahman Hamzah was currently finalising the bill for the proposed Housing Development Ordinance, which he described would be more comprehensive.  “This (proposed) ordinance will facilitate the control and management of housing development in Sarawak, besides protecting the interests of house buyers,” he told reporters after opening the Parti Pesaka Bumiputera Bersatu (PBB) Asajaya Branch triennial delegates meeting here.  He said upon its enforcement, the ordinance would enable the government to control the price of houses as well as encouraging the application of new and environmental-friendly construction methods.

“This (proposed) ordinance will have a provision for the government to create a land bank for housing development purposes in the urban and suburban areas,” he added. — Bernama
