KUALA LUMPUR, Aug 23 — Teenager Nurul Quraital Aini, one of the seriously injured passengers in the Genting Highlands bus accident on Wednesday, crawled over bodies to get out of the vehicle.
Her sisters — Nur Ain Mat Jali, 21, and Intan Liyana, 26 — said Nurul Quraital sat in the middle of the bus but landed up at the back after it plunged into the ravine.
They said all Nurul Quraital, 19, could remember was the bus driver had been speeding down the hill and the bus had been overloaded.
Nurul Quraital was in a normal ward but might be re-admitted to the Intensive Care Unit (ICU) if her condition worsens.
Along with an arm infection, she suffered a broken left arm and a fractured skull and her sisters are worried as she has been unable to sleep.
She told them that whenever she closes her eyes, haunting images, faces and sounds of people screaming appear.
Nur Ain said the only reason Nurul Quraital was on the ill-fated bus was to accompany a friend.
“Normally, she would take another bus which stopped at KL Sentral,” she said
Another victim, Nur Fatihah Ja’afar, 19, saw her elder sister Nur Syamimi Ja’afar, 25, crawling her way out of the wreckage after she ended up at the front door of the bus.
Nur Fatihah did not panic or cry for help as she pushed her way through the wreckage to safety despite glass shards slicing her thighs.
She even scolded the Fire and Rescue Department team for handling her “roughly” as they evacuated the survivors, and made jokes to overcome her fears.
Andri Purwadi, 25, another of the survivors, was on his way to the dentist with his colleague and roommate Nur Fridil Gusman.
Nur Fridil had followed because he wanted to buy a new pair of shoes with his first salary, according to another colleague and roommate Irsad, 23.
Irsad said the three of them were among eight friends who had come from Padang, Indonesia, on July 3 to work as cleaners at the Genting casino and had just been paid on Monday.
He said Andri broke his left leg and Nur Fridil his right arm.
