KUALA TERENGGANU, Aug 18 — The East Coast Rail Route (ECRR) project, which is still at the study stage, is set to change the landscape and boost the economy of east coast states.
Land Public Transport Commission (SPAD) chief development officer Azmi Abdullah Aziz said the rail project was a strategic move as the East Coast Economic Region (ECER) had attracted investors to the East Coast and would be a boost to domestic and foreign investors.
"When more people visit the east coast following the introduction of train services, economic activities will flourish and profit locals there," he told reporters at a Terengganu SPAD Aidilfitri open house here today.
According to plans, the ECRR, which will cut through the Main Range, will connect Kuala Lumpur to Tumpat, Kelantan through Mentakab, Kuantan, Kemaman, Kuala Terengganu and Kota Baru. — Bernama
