KUALA LUMPUR, April 20 — A 64-year-old retired builder in the UK had his life saved by a puppy. This was after a chew by the canine on his toe revealed he was having medical problems.
David Lindsay was asleep on the sofa at his Cambridge home when his seven-month-old bulldog Harley nibbled on his toe, causing it to bleed.
A check by doctors later found that Lindsay, a diabetic patient, had actually lost the sensation in his feet due to two blocked arteries in his legs, The Mirror reported.
“I was asleep on the couch when my wife walked in and shouted, 'Dave, the puppy's chewing your toe!'
“My puppy had near enough chewed my big toe off! It chewed down to the bone and cracked it,” he said, adding that the chewing led him to discover his foot was completely numb.
A CT scan by doctors at the Addenbrooke's Hospital discovered two blocked arteries that could put his leg in danger of being amputated if the blood supply was not resumed.
Thanks to Harley, Lindsay is now being assessed for stents which would open up the arteries and allow the blood flow to return to his leg.
Naturally, Lindsay would not be getting rid of Harley.
“You've got to laugh about it. He's done me a favour by chewing my toe.”
