GEORGE TOWN, July 24 — What colour do you think Komtar should be? Or the various George Town buildings?

You now have a chance to express your creativity in a Penang Colouring Book featuring 17 drawings of Penang featuring its buildings, places, people as well as flora and fauna.

The book, sponsored by We Are Artists (WAA) and George Town Festival (GTF), will feature two artworks each by eight local artists and one large centrespread piece by the editor Lusy Decoursey.

“The book is to help promote local artists in a new and original way. We also wanted to promote community collaboration and colouring is something that anyone can do,” Decoursey said in an email interview with Malay Mail Online.

There will be a colouring book launch party where participants can buy the book and join in the colouring party.

Decoursey said with a colouring book, there is no pressure on people to think of original artwork and at the same time, they get to express their creativity to create something different.

“Families can do it together and bond over it, and it can also help promote the importance of Penang’s culture,” she said.

The colouring book is also meant to instil a sense of pride among the participants for Penang and also to remind them of how special the island state is, she added.

The nine artists involved in the whole project are Esther Geh, Siguanart, Eryn, Sanuri Zulkefli, Bulanlifestyle, Ho Yuan Cheng, Zeon Teo and Rizal Paperbag Head.

The Penang colouring book launch party will be held at Little Art House at Lorong Macalister at 3pm on July 31.

The colouring book will also be for sale at various venues during the festival that kicks off on August 1.

WAA is an international platform built to promote communication, collaboration and community for artists.

Other than the colouring book party, WAA is also organising other events throughout GTF such as Hello Hide & Seek in which visual artists, musicians, chefs and many others will doodle on a sticker and place it in secret hidden places all around George Town.

The map for Hello Hide & Seek will be launched on Aug 1.

Other WAA events in conjunction with GTF include Liars Walk (August 4, 11 and 18), Silent Movie Night with “live” musicians (August 6, 13 and 20), Dance Your Life (August 8 and 15), Drawing Exercise (August 9 and 16), Thaipusam: Faces of Devotion exhibition (August 14) and Alice & Lusy Exhibit: The international Travelling Postcard Exhibition (August 21).
