WASHINGTON, April 5 — As Donald Trump faced criminal charges on Tuesday, bars in the capital Washington prepared special cocktails for customers eager to drink to the former Republican president’s misfortune.

“When it arraigns, we pour US$5 drafts,” the Midlands Beer Garden said in its promotion, knocking beer and mezcal prices down to US$5 (RM22), a modest sum in the pricey city, which votes strongly Democratic.

On its Instagram account, the bar displayed a photoshopped image of Trump in an orange prison jumpsuit.

The 76-year-old real estate mogul arrived at a New York court to plead not guilty to charges in connection with hush money paid to onetime porn star Stormy Daniels.

Picking up on Trump’s claim that he is victim of a “witch hunt,” the Union Pub near Capitol Hill offered a “Witch Hunt Pitcher Special” with US$2 off all pitchers of beer.

Those looking for a mixed drink could try a “Stormy Manhattan,” made with dark rum. Instead of US$130,000 that Trump allegedly spent to keep Daniels quiet, patrons could fork out US$13 for the drink.

In a takeoff on Joe Tacopina, one of Trump’s lawyers, the bar is offering Tacopina Tuesday, two tacos for US$7 or five for US$15.

Finally, the Fight Club bar, copying the former president’s pugilistic style, promised “the best happy hour you’ve ever seen,” with a drawing of Donald Trump crying behind bars.

For US$10, customers can sip a “Dark N’Stormy Daniels,” or an “IndictMINT Julep.” — AFP
