KUALA LUMPUR, Dec 21 — Malaysia's top mixed doubles pair of Chan Peng Soon and Goh Liu Ying wrapped up the 2015 season with a high note after claiming the Mexico City Grand Prix Gold Badminton Tournament title on Sunday (today in Malaysia).

The second-seeded pair, who bagged the Polish Open in March and the Russian Open Gold GP in July, defeated fourth seeds Solgyu Choi/Eom Hye Won of South Korea in straight sets, winning 21-14, 21-12 in just 30 minutes, according to the Badminton World Federation (BWF) website, www.bwfbadminton.org.

It was a sweet revenge for Chan/Goh who lost to the same opponents in the quarterfinals in the recently concluded United States Open.

For their latest feat, the pair pocketed USD3,950 (RM16,962) while the South Korean pair received USD1,900 (RM8,161) as the first runner-up.

Malaysia's campaign in the men's singles event ended on Saturday after the only player left standing, former 2011 world junior men's singles shuttler Zulfadli Zulkiffli, went down 12-21, 12-21 to Japanese veteran player Sho Sasaki in a quarterfinal match.

Malaysia did not send a representative to the women's singles event of the USD50,000 (RM214,764) Grand Prix Gold tournament. — Bernama
