SINGAPORE, June 9 — National snooker champion and defending champion Thor Chuan Leong potted his way to the men’s individual category gold medal by beating Htet Ko from Myanmar, 4-2 in the final at the OCBC Arena, here today.

The Penang-born Chuan Leong took the first frame 57-41 but Htet levelled the tie by winning the next frame 102-57 before the Malaysian clinched the third frame 65-1.

Chuan Leong later admitted that he was under pressure when the Myanmar player managed to come from behind to level the tie at 2-2.

“I slowed down play to ease the pressure in the fifth frame and continued to focus on my game. He (Htet) is very talented and I was a little surprised with his play. He will be a difficult player to beat in the future,” he said.

Chuan Leong will team up with veteran Moh Keen Hoo in the snooker doubles tomorrow.

“I am not making any promises for tomorrow but I and Moh will give our best,” he said. — Bernama
