KUALA LUMPUR, Dec 19 — Malaysian squash queen and world number one player, Datuk Nicol David, continued her scintillating performance at the 2014 Women’s World Squash Championship in Cairo, yesterday cruising through to the semi-finals.

The 31-year Penangite, vying for her eighth world title, needed only 43 minutes to dispose of sixth seed Frenchwoman Camille Serme 11-9, 11-7 and 13-11 at the Wadi Degla Club, extending her 14th consecutive win in their meetings.

Nicol said she was pleased with the result despite the 25-year-old Frenchwoman giving her a run for her money.

“I knew that Camille would bring her best squash and that she would be fired up, and that I would have to step up my game,” Nicol was quoted as saying on the tournament’s website.www.squashsite.co.uk.

Nicol will meet 10th seeded Egyptian Omneya Abdel Kawy in the last four later today.

Omneya pulled off an upset by defeating another Malaysian, Low Wee Wern, who was the seventh seed, with a 12-10, 11-3 and 11-4 victory in just half an hour.

The 30th edition of the tournament offers prizemoney of US$150,000 (RM521,337).

Nicol previously won the world title in 2005, 2006, 2008, 2009, 2010, 2011 and 2012.

At the Penang International Sports Arena (PISA) last year, she lost to former three-time world junior champion Nour El-Sherbini of Egypt at the semi-final stage. — Bernama
