KUALA LUMPUR, April 2 — The local film Malaikat Malam has recorded a box office collection of RM10.2 million during its early screenings and first week, solidifying its position as one of the most talked-about local films of the year.
Datuk Dr Yusof Haslam, chairman of Skop Productions and executive producer of Malaikat Malam, said: “We are very grateful for the extraordinary support from audiences.
“What makes it even more meaningful is when the viewers themselves elevate the film and share their experiences.
“This achievement shows that a story close to the realities of society, combined with strong entertainment elements, can attract widespread interest.
“We hope Malaysian audiences will continue to support Malaikat Malam and other local films,” he added.
The film, produced in collaboration with major industry players including Viper Studios, Skop Productions, Astro Shaw, and Primeworks Studios, has been screening in cinemas nationwide since March 26.
It has received a variety of audience reactions and grown into a wave of positive support, hailed as a must-watch film.
Social media conversations remain lively, with widespread praise for the actors’ performances, storytelling, and the bold approach taken in the motorcycle action genre.
This success also reflects audience confidence in the work of new director Nazifdin Nasrudin, who brings a fresh perspective.
Malaikat Malam is expected to continue drawing audiences to cinemas in the coming weeks, highlighting elements of love, friendship, and sacrifice within a street-life setting.
The film tells the tale of Azam, a street racer caught between the thrill of his dangerous lifestyle and the emotional turmoil he keeps buried.
His path shifts when he nearly collides with Ratna, a blind young woman, and from there, the story moves beyond speed and spectacle into something more introspective.
The cast of Malaikat Malam includes Syafiq Kyle, Tracie Sinidol, Amir Nafis, Kodi Rasheed, Juzzthin, Que Haidar, Riezman Khuzaimi, and Akmal Asyraf.
