LOS ANGELES, Aug 10 — Ever since Caitlyn Jenner opened up on her transition, transgender issues have been dominating the cultural consciousness right now.
Cue the timely appearance of “About Ray”, a new film from British director Gaby Dellal that sees Elle Fanning play a teenager born a girl named Ramona who identifies herself as a boy, called Ray, and wants to transition before starting at a new school.
The trailer also focuses heavily on Naomi Watts and Susan Sarandon, who play Ray’s mother and grandmother, respectively. Fanning must seek out biological father (Tate Donovan) in order to get a parental signature to consent to a sex change.
Obviously a subject like this makes for an emotional movie and from the trailer it certainly looks like a few tears might be shed by audiences when it comes out.
The film is set to hit theatres on September 18.
