KUCHING, April 24 — A Shell gas integrated development plant in Bintulu is expected to produce 750 million standard cubic feet per day of gas towards the end of 2026, Shell Malaysia country chair Siti Hurrairah Sulaiman said today.

She said gas from the Rosmari-Majoram fields situated 220km off the coast of Bintulu will be fed into the onshore MLNG plant, also in Bintulu, to produce liquefied natural gas (LNG).

“It is an integrated development so gas is going to be produced from our offshore fields in Sarawak, feeding into the plant,” she told reporters at the Shell Malaysia Hari Raya open house here.

“It is a huge investment, and this is one of our biggest projects in Shell’s 130 years of history in Malaysia.”

Siti Hurrairah added she had briefed Sarawak Premier Tan Sri Abang Johari Openg who had asked for an update on the progress of the gas project before the start of the open house.

She said piling work on the onshore plant began recently after the first investment decision (FID) was made last year.

“The Sarawak premier was interested to hear about the progress. We have cleared the land and we have put our first pile on the land in Bintulu,” she said.

“If everything goes well, we should be able to see first gas towards the end of 2026.

“There is going to be big progress as far as Sarawak upstream in the oil and gas business is concerned.”

Siti Hurrairah said this was in addition to another gas project, Timi, which is being constructed offshore near Bintulu and is expected to commence operations before the end of this year.

She said Shell is exploring Sarawak waters actively at the moment and there are already a number of offshore blocks.

“Let’s keep our fingers crossed, and hopefully, we can announce a new oil and gas discovery,” she said.
