KUALA LUMPUR, July 26 ― Shares on Bursa Malaysia remained broadly lower at mid-day today as concerns over the steep decline in the overnight oil prices continued to curb demand on the local bourse.
At 12.30pm, the benchmark FTSE Bursa Malaysia KLCI (FBM KLCI) eased 4.22 points to 1,664.04, after fluctuating between 1,660.72 and 1,666.99 throughout the morning session.
Selling was mosltly spotted in blue-chips and selected heavyweights, especially oil and gas related stocks Petronas Chemicals, SapuraKencana and Petronas Gas.
There were 381 gainers and 245 losers, with 340 counters unchanged, 736 untraded and 48 others suspended.
Turnover stood at 722.98 million shares worth RM529.1 million.
On the scoreboard, the FBM Emas Index fell 37.65 points to 11,646.29, the FBM Emas Shariah Index lost 40.5 points to 12,242.99, the FBMT100 Index decreased 36.72 points to 11,343.31 and the FBM 70 gave up 71.79 points for 13,225.24.
However, the FBM Ace added 1.61 points to 5,420.74.
Sector-wise, the Finance Index declined 27.08 points to 14,175, the Industrial Index trimmed 14.24 points to 3,142.68 and the Plantation Index erased 33.04 points to 7,567.16.
Of the heavyweights, Public Bank rose 10 sen to RM19.48, IHH Healthcare added one sen to RM6.61 while TNB was unchanged at RM14.30.
However, Maybank shed one sen to RM8.09.
Among actives, Borneo Oil and O&C Resources inched down half-a-sen each to 18 sen and 41.5 sen respectively. ― Bernama
