KUALA LUMPUR, June 26 — Shares on Bursa Malaysia ended on a bearish note with losses in heavyweights continuing to weigh on market sentiment.

At 5pm today, the FTSE Bursa Malaysia KLCI (FBM KLCI) finished at 1,710.47, down 6.34 points, after fluctuating between 1,709.87 and 1,716.64 throughout the day.

Losers thumped gainers 441 to 345, with 320 counters unchanged, 732 untraded and 48 others were suspended. Total volume decreased to 1.35 billion units, worth RM1.43 billion, from yesterday’s 1.65 billion units worth RM2.08 billion.

HLIB Research said the local market was tracking sluggish regional markets amid concerns of a potential Greece debt default and the country exiting the European Union after days of talks in Brussels failed to yield a breakthrough.

Of heavyweights, Maybank eased 10 sen to RM9.22, Public Bank slid 18 sen to RM18.72, Axiata fell 2 sen to RM6.46, Sime Darby shed 1 sen to RM8.50 but Tenaga rose 10 sen to RM12.66.

Among actives, Frontken perked 1 sen to 26.5 sen, IFCA MSC gained 7 sen to RM1.26, AirAsia X eased 0.5 sen to 22 sen, AirAsia slipped 6 sen to RM1.54 while KNM was flat at 63 sen.

On the scoreboard, the FBM Emas Index was 53.51 points lower at 11,833.36, the FBMT100 Index fell 52.72 points to 11,510.66, the FBM Emas Syariah shed 25.83 points to 12,306.36, the FBM 70 dropped 97.39 points to 12,881.76 and the FBM Ace decreased 10.01 points to 6,398.35.

On a sectoral basis, the Finance Index fell 95.26 points to 15,514.22, the Plantation Index fell 10.75 points to 7,258.34 and the Industrial Index declined 12.75 points for 3,140.24.

Main Market volume decreased to 837.10 million shares, worth RM1.28 billion, from 1.16 billion shares, worth RM1.94 billion, recorded yesterday.

Turnover on the ACE Market fell to 282.65 million units, valued at RM92.75 million, from 336.20 million units, valued at RM96.33 million, registered yesterday. Warrants declined to 230.31 million shares, worth RM62.59 million, from 149.83 million shares worth RM37.11 million previously.

Consumer products accounted for 64.07 million shares traded on the Main Market, industrial products (179.30 million), construction (38.61 million), trade and services (390.65 million), technology (31.91 million), infrastructure (13.52 million), SPAC (8.26 million), finance (27 million), hotels (2.58 million), properties (62.09 million), plantations (15.48 million), mining (15,000), REITs (3.56 million) and closed/fund (41,500). — Bernama
