KUALA LUMPUR, Sept 10 — Share prices on Bursa Malaysia remain on the upswing at mid-afternoon today, as investors continue to take the cue from the firmer regional bourses, dealers said.
Half an hour after the afternoon session resumed, the FTSE Bursa Malaysia KLCI (FBM KLCI) was up 16.55 points or 0.947 per cent to 1,763.58.
On the regional front, Japan’s Nikkei 225 jumped 218.13 points to 14,423.36, Hong Kong’s Hang Seng climbed 137.42 points to 22,888.07 and Singapore’s Straits Times rose 15.11 points to 3,103.31.
Back to the local bourse, the Finance Index advanced 153.701 points to 16,540.57, the Plantation Index improved 31.34 points to 8,256.05 and the Industrial Index surged 41.34 points to 2,991.89.
The FBM Emas Index perked 111.79 points to 12,220.76, the FBM100 Index advanced 107.899 points to 11,973.77, the FBM 70 increased 106.08 points to 13,822.54 and the FBM Ace gained 67.65 points to 5,087.5.
Advancers led decliners by 505 to 184, with 266 counters unchanged, 609 untraded and 13 suspended.
Turnover stood at 1.163 billion shares worth RM1.288 billion.
Among actives, DVM Technology edged up half-a-sen to eight sen, while DVM Technology-warr and The Media Shoppe were both unchanged at three sen and 9.5 sen, respectively.
Leading the gainers were British American Tobacco, which advanced 78 sen to RM63.06, AEON Credit gained 70 sen to RM16.30 and PPB Group went up 54 sen to RM14.08.
Heavyweights, CIMB added 13 sen to RM7.53, Petronas Gas rose 40 sen to RM21.28, Maybank edged up two sen to RM10.06 and Public Bank gained 22 sen to RM17.80. — Bernama
