KUALA LUMPUR, Sept 14 — MyEG Services Bhd should return the money paid by employers who used its services to renew their foreign worker permits, Kota Melaka MP Khoo Poay Tiong said at Parliament today.

He maintained that the public-listed firm had misled the employers when they sought an update about their renewal applications online, by removing the link on its website.

“The application link was removed when I checked this morning after I raised this issue in Parliament.

“Good! But please return the money to the applicants. A huge sum of money is at stake. Some employers WhatsApp-ed me saying they applied for 10 of their foreign workers,” he said in a press conference outside the Dewan Rakyat.

He added that MyEG should not collect money from the employers in the first place.

“When an applicant asks them for an update, MyEG says their system is currently down, hence they can't process their applications. That is misleading, their contract was discontinued,” he said.

While debating during the mid-term review of the 12th Malaysia Plan two days ago, Khoo had accused the company of dishonesty by continuing to collect money for its foreign worker permit renewal services, purportedly after its business licence was suspended in February.

In a statement yesterday, MyEG denied misrepresenting its online services after they were called out in Parliament by Khoo last Tuesday.

MyEG said that all services continue to be provided in accordance with the terms and conditions stipulated by the government of Malaysia.

It also said that Khoo’s allegations in Parliament were only his personal opinion.

However, Khoo said today that his remarks were backed by evidence in writing.

“I have emails and text messages. I do not simply bring any issues to the Dewan Rakyat,” the backbencher said.
