PUTRAJAYA, Aug 12 — Pakatan Harapan (PH) will continue to govern Penang after obtaining a majority of over 50 per cent in today’s state polls.

Election Commission (EC) chairman Tan Sri Abdul Ghani Salleh told a media conference here today that PH had won 21 out of the 40 State Legislative Assembly seats contested in Penang as of 10.34pm.

As of 4pm earlier, Penang had recorded a 67 per cent voter turnout.

Penang Chief Minister Chow Kon Yeow won the Padang Kota seat for the fourth consecutive time after obtaining a majority of 7,116 votes.

It was reported that Chow, who is also the Batu Kawan Member of Parliament, would be named as Chief Minister candidate if PH retains power in Penang.

In the 14th general election in May 2018, PH won 37 out of the 40 state seats to form the state government. — Bernama
