Penang is the final destination of Prince Charles week-long official visit to Malaysia.

Sandhurst, is the British Army’s initial officer training centre located in Camberley, near the village of Sandhurst, Berkshire, 34 miles southwest of London.

After the event, Prince Charles and his wife Camilla, the Duchess of Cornwall, continued their tour with a reception at the Penang Peranakan Mansion.

The royal couple were feted to a dinner at the mansion together with 80 guests.

Present were Penang Chief Minister Lim Guan Eng and his wife Betty Chew Gek Cheng, Deputy Chief Minister I Datuk Rashid Hasnon and state executive councillors.

The Penang Peranakan Mansion located here is a museum dedicated to Penang’s Peranakan heritage.

The Peranakans, a prominent community of Chinese also known as the Babas and Nyonyas, settled down in the Straits Settlements (Penang, Melaka and Singapore), hence its other name, the Straits Chinese.

The Peranakan adopted the Malay and British Colonial lifestyle and customs. This adoption can be seen in cuisine and language use. — Bernama
