KLANG, Oct 25 — The third Klang Bridge project costing about RM230 million, aimed at easing traffic congestion and dispersal in the area, is expected to be completed by mid-2017.

Selangor Mentri Besar Datuk Seri Mohamed Azmin Ali said the bridge across the Klang River with the project fully funded by the state government, would not only reduce traffic congestion involving public vehicles, but also heavy vehicles heading to North Port and West Port.

“The state government through the Selangor Public Works Department, as the implementing agency, has given out a big allocation to build this bridge as Klang town is rapidly developing, with extraordinary congestion.”

He said this at a press conference after officiating at the construction works of the Third Klang Bridge at the project site, here, today.

On a another matter, Mohamed Azmin expressed his disappointment over the delay by the Negri Sembilan Department of Environment (DoE) in taking samples at the polluting location which caused the Sungai Semenyih water treatment plant to be shut about noon yesterday despite the state government having reported the incident at 6.10pm on Sunday.

He said he had contacted Negri Sembilan Mentri Besar Datuk Seri Mohamad Hasan requesting him to ensure that the DoE immediately go to the location to collect the evidence.

“We want the polluters to be brought to book,” he said.

Kumpulan Air Selangor had reportedly said that the Sungai Semenyih water treatment plant was shut at 7.30am on Sunday due to odour pollution of the river water, with the source suspected to be the Nilai industrial area in Negri Sembilan.

However, the water treatment plant resumed operations about 5am yesterday.

Mohamed Azmin had reportedly alleged sabotage to be the cause of the odour pollution, forcing the temporary closure of the water treatment plant. — Bernama
