KUALA LUMPUR, Aug 9 — Barisan Nasional (BN) Youth movements have been reminded not to be confused with the emergence of a new party which aims to oppose Umno and Barisan Nasional, said its chairman Khairy Jamaluddin.
Khairy, who is Umno Youth chief, said the new party, a splinter from Umno, was made up of former party leaders who had their own sentiments and it should be viewed seriously so that members would not jump or leave the party.
“As such, our party members and supporters need to be given information, in fact I myself have stressed the importance of such issues being explained in detail when opening divisional meetings.
“I believe we could assure members and supporters on the matter as we did not take the easy way to face the current challenge,” he said after chairing the BN Youth meeting here today.
Khairy who is also Youth and Sports Minister was asked to comment on the new party formed by Tun Dr Mahathir Mohamad and its impact on the BN and youths.
Khairy said continuous information sessions should be held to ensure members and supporters remained loyal to the party and not to be influenced by the creation of new parties.
Elaborating on today’s meeting, Khairy said BN Youth agreed to adopt the winning formula of the Sarawak state election and the by-elections in Sungai Besar and Kuala Kangsar to be applied in the coming general election.
He said the approach could be adopted and practised to win over voters using good communications strategy, the social media and preparation of the party machinery.
He said BN Youth would also be holding special workshops and training to bring the leadership and the grassroots closer together to strengthen their machinery in facing current issues and preparing for the general election. — Bernama
