KUALA LUMPUR, July 15 — The High Court here today dismissed the application filed by the Malaysian Crime Watch Task Force (MyWatch) chairman Datuk R. Sri Sanjeevan to challenge the 21-day remand order made against him under the Prevention of Crime Act (POCA) 2013.

Judicial Commissioner Datuk Ab Karim Ab Rahman in a letter to Messrs. Gobind Singh Deo & Co said the High court found that there was no irregularity or error done by the Magistrate in granting the remand order under Section 4(1)(a) of the POTA.

“On Thursday afternoon, the judge looked at the application and found that there was no reason to call it up,” Gobind told reporters here today after filing a habeas corpus application to challenge the remand order which was allegedly done not in accordance with the law, at the Criminal High Court Registry here today.

Last Monday, the Magistrate’s Court allowed an application from the police to remand Sanjeevan until July 31.

Sanjeevan and his driver, an Indian national, were detained under Section 506, and Sections 384 and 385 of the Penal Code for alleged criminal intimidation and extortion near the Nilai toll plaza on June 22.

The MyWatch chairman was arrested following a police report lodged by a complainant that the suspect threatened to slander him through the Facebook social site. — Bernama
