KUALA LUMPUR, June 29 — Inspector-General of Police Tan Sri Khalid Abu Bakar has told predecessor Tan Sri Musa Hassan to furnish evidence of corruption in the force before making allegations to the media.
Khalid was responding to Musa’s claim that recent gun violence in the country was linked to corrupt police officials, following an increase in such incidents.
“He must come forward and tell us. He shouldn’t be keeping it to himself. If not, I think he is making an unfair comment,” he told reporters in a press conference today.
Musa alleged earlier today that the increase in shooting incidents was a result of corrupt police officials smuggling guns into the country.
Today, Khalid also said the number of shootings reported in recent weeks was not abnormal.
“This is not something sudden, but it has been happening over time. There have been shootings and killings.
“We will ensure that this kind of things do not happen and we will take action,” Khalid stressed.
He also said the police were currently conducting Ops Cantas II to eradicate such crimes and so far have arrested 500 people under the Prevention of Crime Act (POCA) 1959.
Musa told reporters earlier today that corruption was why shooting incidents and a recent grenade attack at a Puchong nightclub were happening in a country with strict gun laws.
