KUCHING, Feb 27 ― The number of flood victims in the district of Serian, Sarawak remained unchanged from last night at 631 from 195 families who were staying at two flood evacuation centres.

The two relief centres were at the Gedong Community Hall and Sekolah Kebangsaan Tanah Puteh.

However, heavy rain around Kuching division since early morning raised fear of the possibility that the flood would return to the low-lying areas especially around the Kuching, Serian and Samarahan divisions.

Public Relations Officer of the Sarawak branch of the Civil Defence Department Siti Huzaimah Ibrahim said heavy rain especially in several areas around the Kuching division this morning led to flash floods occurring in the low-lying areas around the city.

She said the relevant agencies were currently monitoring closely the low-lying areas in the suburban areas around the city which were flood-prone such as Taman Malihah, Taman Desa Wira, Kampung Sinar Budi, and Batu Kitang.

Closer monitoring was carried out in settlements located near the river banks. ― Bernama
