MALACCA, Feb 7 — The number of flood evacuees in Malacca had declined to 4,317 from 956 families as at 8 pm today from 4,382 from 968 families as recorded at 4pm.
Of the total, 2,724 victims were taking shelter at relief centres in Central Malacca, 1,569 in Alor Gajah and 24 in Jasin.
Malacca Civil Defence Department director Effendy Ali said only 13 relief centres remained open — six each in Central Malacca and Alor Gajah and one in Jasin.
He said two relief centres at the Bukit Tambun community hall and Sekolah Kebangsaan Ganun in Alor Gajah and at Sekolah Menengah Simpang Bekoh in Jasin had been closed this evening.
In Negri Sembilan, the number of flood victims remaining at six relief centres in Tampin showed a slight drop this evening to 657 from 666 this afternoon.
State Civil Defence director Kamal Mokhtar in a statement said of the total, 589 were housed at Sekolah Kebangsaan (F) Sungai Kelamah; Sungai Dua Mosque (15); Parit Buloh community hall in Air Kuning (16); Sungai Kelamah community hall (18); Kampung Ladang community hall in Gemas (four); and Sekolah Kebangsaan Kampung Ladang (15).
He said the Gemencheh-Gemas road remain closed to all traffic and no casualty was reported so far.
In Johor, the number of flood victims in the state rose to 105 from 29 families as at 8 pm from only 82 from 20 families as reported this afternoon.
Ledang civil defence officer Mohd Shahrizan Abd Aziz said the victims, who were evacuated to three relief centres, were from kampung Seberang gajah, Kampung Sialang Dalam, Kampung Tanjong Laboh and Kampung Sri Makmur. — Bernama
