— BERNAMA (@bernamadotcom) November 16, 2015KUALA LUMPUR, Nov 16 — Heavy rain has caused flash flooding in parts of Johor Baru, according to national news agency Bernama.
Citing the police, Bernama this afternoon said the water level in some areas of the state capital of Johor has reached 1.5 metres.
“Banjir kilat akibatkan pusat bandar Johor Baharu ditenggelami air setinggi 1.5 metre — Polis,” the agency wrote using its Twitter handle @bernamadotcom.
(Translation: Flash flood causes Johor Baharu to be in waters as high as 1.5 metres — Police)
Johor was one of the states hit by floods late last year that led to residents being evacuated for safety, with over 100 families being displaced even in January this year.
Last Tuesday, the Johor Fire and Rescue Department was reported saying that it has sufficient assets and manpower to handle the possible floods during this year’s monsoon period.
According to the state department’s assistant director of operations, Mohd Rizal Buang, it has 72 boats, 72 four-wheel-drive vehicles, 18 lorries, as well as 2,256 firemen — namely 1,247 full-time personnel, 59 reserve personnel and 950 volunteers.
Other states that were affected in the severe floods last year include Kelantan, Terengganu, Pahang, Perak and Sabah.
