KUALA LUMPUR, Nov 5 ― The federal government has prepared a special blueprint to manage any flood crisis that may occur due to the current monsoonal storms, Datuk Seri Dr Ahmad Zahid Hamidi said today.
The deputy prime minister also said all matters relating to preparations to face the floods will be handled by the agency for national disaster management (APBN), which is under the Prime Minister's Department (JPM).
“We have created a special template for flood management on a levels, based on our experience in Kemaman.
“It is called the Kemaman template,” Ahmad Zahid told a news conference here.
The deputy prime minister said MPs whose constituencies were prone to floods would be briefed on the template once Parliament resumes after Deepavali.
“For next year's budget it has been announced that RM180 million has been allocated for flood management.
“This amount does not include the purchase of assets like boats and four-wheel drives,” Ahmad Zahid added.
He also said schools identified as venues where flood victims will be placed for temporary shelter will be upgraded to cater to the emergency relief efforts.
“For example, these schools will be upgraded to build more toilets,” Ahmad Zahid said.
