KUALA LUMPUR, Oct 28 — Former prime ministers ought to accept their retirement with dignity instead of continuing to meddle in the administrations of their successors, said Umno minister Datuk Abdul Rahman Dahlan.

The urban wellbeing, housing and local government minister was commenting on Tun Dr Mahathir Mohamad who has taken up the role of anti-government activist in his bid to force Prime Minister Datuk Seri Najib Razak from office.

“I wish, but of course, it is a dream. We need to have culture where former prime minister should retire with dignity,” Abdul Rahman told reporters when met outside the Parliament lobby today.

The Kota Belud MP added that Dr Mahathir should respect Umno’s rules as he remains a member of the party, and not openly attack its leaders.

The minister added that Barisan Nasional remains confident of winning the next general election despite the former prime minister’s predictions of defeat.

Dr Mahathir has emerged the most outspoken critic of Umno president Datuk Seri Najib Razak, demanding at every opportunity that the man he backed to become prime minister must now resign due to a variety of allegations.
