KUALA LUMPUR, Sept 14 ― PKR’s Nik Nazmi Nik Ahmad would do better if he practised some restrain in politics instead of divulging everything to the media, PAS information chief Datuk Mahfuz Omar said today.

The Pokok Sena MP rapped the PKR Youth chief, whom he described as “unclever” for making public the details of a closed-door talk on the ongoing Selangor mentri besar problem last Friday with PAS president Datuk Seri Abdul Hadi Awang.

According to Mahfuz, Abdul Hadi’s support for Tan Sri Khalid Ibrahim to remain Selangor mentri besar was a personal expression and not binding on the Islamist party.

“I hope Nik Nazmi will be more careful in this matter and knows our manners. A discussion during a courtesy visit and a decision are two very different matters.

“I feel it was unclever. Really unclever,” Mahfuz told reporters at the party’s headquarters here.

Yesterday, Nik Nazmi claimed the Marang MP shared he was still keen to keep Khalid in office in a meeting yesterday with the youth wing chiefs of all three PR parties, adding that Abdul Hadi also volunteered to keep watch over Khalid to make sure the latter didn’t make any more missteps.

Mahfuz said today that his party supports the removal of Khalid, but regrets that it was dragged into and blamed for the imbroglio.

He reiterated that PAS has no desire to take the Selangor mentri besar post, and will abide by the ruler’s decision to choose whichever PKR lawmaker gets elected.

“We’ll decide when we get there,” Mahfuz replied curtly when asked whether the party would invite the ruler’s wrath should the Sultan chooses its assemblyman for the post and it refuses.

This comes as PAS Youth Chief Suhaizan Kaiat calls for a media embargo among the chiefs of the three Pakatan Rakyat (PR) parties’ youth wings, for its discussion with the coalition’s top leadership.

“The process is to meet and have a heart-to-heart discussion between each party’s top leadership,” Suhaizan said on his Facebook page.

“Any information that we get I think is really unsuitable to be revealed to the public for now because it will spark polemic after polemic which will in the end hinder the process that we’re exploring.”

Last week, the youth wings of PR came together in a show of unity to urge top leaders of the tripartite pact to end their bickering and reach a consensus soon to end the worsening crisis over the Selangor mentri besar post.

In a joint statement, the youth wings of PKR, PAS and DAP said they will organise separate meetings with PAS president Datuk Seri Abdul Hadi Awang, PKR de facto leader Datuk Seri Anwar Ibrahim, and DAP parliamentary leader Lim Kit Siang to press home the point.

Thirty Selangor assemblymen — all 28 from PKR and the DAP, as well as two from PAS — had signed statutory declarations in support of PKR President Datuk Ser Dr Wan Azizah Wan Ismail, comprising the majority of the 56-seat legislative assembly.

PAS had initially submitted two names — Dr Wan Azizah and PKR deputy President Azmin Ali — but their list has since been overtaken by a list of three undisclosed names personally submitted by PAS president Datuk Seri Abdul Hadi Awang late last week.

PKR’s position remains the same — to stick with a single MB nominee until and unless there are further developments with the palace.
