SIBU, June 24 — The wife of a man who allegedly raped a 13-year-old girl stripped the victim, slapped her and attempted to burn her with a cigarette butt instead of reporting the matter to the police, The Star reported today.
Emok Sulok, 42, was charged under Section 324 of the Penal Code for assault.
The accused told the magistrate’s court here today that she had assaulted the victim because she was angry when she found out the teenager had sex with her husband, but her reason was not accepted by the court, who sentenced her to two years in jail and fined her RM4,000 in default for four months’ imprisonment.
She opted for the default sentence as she said she could not pay the fine. She also pleaded for leniency saying that she had to look after the children and had just returned from the hospital for her regular check-up for high blood pressure on the day of committing the offence.
According to The Star report, the victim was allegedly raped by the woman’s husband at about 6pm on June 18 and the act was witnessed by the rapist’s 11-year-old son, who reported the matter to his mother.
At about 8am the next day (June 19), the woman summoned the victim to the front of her house where a neighbour witnessed her cutting and shaving the victim’s hair. When her neighbour questioned her actions, she replied that she was angry that the victim had sex with her husband.
She then proceeded to forcibly remove the victim’s clothes and told her to stand naked under the sun. She also slapped the victim and tried to burn her on her left shoulder and ear with a cigarette butt.
The victim, who said she did not fight back because she feared for her safety, later related the incident to her brother, who reported the matter to the police. The couple were arrested on June 20.
The man has been released on bail pending the results of a chemistry report before being charged with statutory rape.
It was reported that the victim and her brother had been staying with the accused’s family as they have been disowned by their own family.
