KUALA LUMPUR, June 14 — Datuk Seri Najib Tun Razak said today the position of Barisan Nasional (BN) in the state of Perak is stronger now following the Teluk Intan by-election recently.

The Prime Minister said this could also be seen from the closed-door meetings he attended with leaders of the Perak BN component parties held at the Dataran Menara Condong, Teluk Intan this morning.

“The victory by Datuk Mah Siew Keong and Gerakan in the Teluk Intan by-election recently indicated the growing strength of Barisan Nasional in the state of Perak.

“We should continue to be united and strive to achieve the development agenda so that the country will continue to be peaceful and prosperous,” he said in his entry in the Facebook website.

In the Teluk Intan parliamentary by-election on May 31, BN candidate Datuk Mah Siew Keong, who is also Gerakan president, beat DAP candidate Dyana Sofya Mohd Daud with a majority of 238 votes.

Mah's victory not only saw the BN regaining the Teluk Intan parliamentary seat but also strengthened his position as Gerakan president which he won in the party election in October last year as well as the party's position in the BN. — Bernama
