TELUK INTAN, May 26 — DAP’s Dyana Sofya Mohd Daud is expected to unveil her manifesto for the Teluk Intan by-election tomorrow, following the move by Barisan Nasional (BN) earlier today, Perak DAP leaders announced.

This comes as DAP leaders criticised Datuk Mah Siew Keong’s manifesto, labelling it as “recycled”, and a list of unfulfilled BN pledges which were made close to a decade ago.

“Tomorrow, DAP’s candidate will announce her special manifesto. We wait for what she will announce,” Perak DAP chief Nga Kor Ming told reporters here.

So far, Dyana has shied away from pledging anything that would directly benefit the locals, focusing instead on national issues such as the rising cost of living and the goods and services tax (GST).

Earlier today, Mah pledged to build a university for the town and get Unesco heritage listing for the Teluk Intan Leaning Tower.

According to Nga, Mah should have listed down details such as the university’s location and when it will be built, if he was really sincere on his promise.

Nga also challenged Mah to list down the exact characteristics of the tower which can qualify it as a Unesco heritage.

Teluk Intan-born Mah had also promised to turn his hometown into an agricultural hub for lower Perak, increasing investment and creating more WiFi zones as part of his election pledge.

The 53-year-old Gerakan president was Teluk Intan MP for two terms before losing the seat to the DAP in 2008 and 2013.

“I hope to achieve at least 70 to 80 per cent of my manifesto,” he said.

Mah said he was the underdog in the Teluk Intan by-election, pointing out that he had lost the seat in the 13th general election last year by over 7,000 votes.

“The previous MP, Seah Leong Peng, was a local boy who worked very hard. There’s a lot of sympathy votes,” he said.

The Teluk Intan by-election was triggered after Seah died from cancer on May 1.

Mah will take on DAP’s Dyana Sofya Mohd Daud, 26, in a straight fight for the parliamentary seat on May 31.
